Save toward a goal

Create a savings goal with a target, fill it with transfers from your wallets and follow the progress. Goals count in net worth but not in What's Left.

Works on iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac and the webUpdated

A savings goal is a pot with a target amount. It starts at 0, and you fill it by moving money into it from a spending wallet. The Money tab shows how far along it is. The money in a goal counts in your net worth, and it leaves What's Left the moment you move it.

Create a goal

  1. Open the Money tab and tap + at the top right. In the sheet Track something new, tap Savings goal.
  2. Type a Goal name, such as "Holiday".
  3. Optional: tap Icon and color.
  4. Enter the Target amount, for example 1000. It must be above 0.
  5. Check the Currency. It starts as your main currency and only regular currencies are offered, no coins.
  6. Tap Add.

If you have no goal yet, Savings goal also appears as a chip under Track more at the bottom of the Money tab.

Add money to a goal

  1. On the Money tab, find the goal under Savings goals and tap Add money.
  2. The form is titled Add to goal. Pick the wallet the money comes From. Only spending wallets are offered.
  3. Enter the amount and save.

This is a transfer: the spending wallet goes down by the amount and the goal goes up. If the two wallets use different currencies, the form shows a Recipient gets amount and the rate. See how rates work.

Money can also come back out: in the full form, make a transfer with the goal as the From wallet. You cannot record an expense straight against a goal.

Follow the progress

The goal's card shows the saved amount and a line such as "25% · €750.00 to go of €1,000.00". When the target is met, it reads "Reached · €1,000.00". With amounts hidden, it shows only the share, such as "25% of the goal".

When a transfer crosses 25%, 50%, 75% or 100% of the target, a message tells you, for example "50% of Holiday saved" or "Holiday fully funded". Putting in more than the target is allowed; the progress stops at 100%.

See when you would get there

  1. On the goal's card, tap the ⋯ button (More), then Edit goal.
  2. Below the form, drag the slider under What if.

It reads "At €100 a month: Mar 2027", the month you would reach the target at that monthly amount. It is a what-if and is not saved. It shows only while something is left to save.

Change or remove a goal

  • Edit goal (from the ⋯ menu) changes the name, the icon and the target. The currency cannot be changed.
  • Remove, at the foot of the edit screen, archives the goal. You can also swipe its card to the left, which offers Undo. Archiving removes the goal's balance from your net worth. See archive a wallet you no longer use.

Good to know

  • A goal is a wallet. Its balance is the sum of the transfers in and out, so Update balance works on it too.
  • Goals are not part of What's Left. Only spending wallets are. See what the numbers mean.
  • A goal in another currency counts as one of your space's currencies on the free plan. See supported currencies.
