These terms are the agreement between you and Tavala LLC for the Tavala apps on iPhone, iPad, Android and Mac, the web app at https://app.tavala.io, and the website at https://tavala.io. By installing or using Tavala, you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the app.
We have tried to write this in plain language. Where a clause limits what you can expect from us, we have said so directly rather than burying it.
Who may use Tavala
You must be at least 18 years old. Tavala is a tool for managing your own money, and it is not designed or intended for children.
You may use Tavala as a guest with no account. If you create an account, you are responsible for keeping your sign-in methods safe - your password, and any authenticator app or passkey you add - and for everything done through your account. There are no recovery codes: if you lose every second step you set up, we may not be able to restore access. Tell us at support@tavala.io if you believe someone else has access to your account.
One account is for one person. You may install Tavala on as many of your own devices as you like; how many of them sync at once depends on your plan.
What Tavala is
Tavala records the money you tell it about and does arithmetic on it. It tracks spending and income in any currency, budgets, bills, savings goals, debts, and trips and projects; it projects cash flow; it lets a household or a group keep one ledger together; in the United States and Canada it can import transactions from your bank; it includes calculators for loans, compound interest and similar; and Ask Tavala, an optional assistant, answers questions about your records and prepares changes for you to confirm.
Tavala works offline by design. The core of the app does not depend on our servers being available.
What Tavala is not
Tavala is not financial advice. This is the most important sentence in these terms.
The forecasts, debt payoff plans, spending insights, calculators, Ask Tavala's answers and every other number the app produces are arithmetic applied to figures you entered or your bank reported. They are informational tools, nothing more. They are not investment advice, tax advice, legal advice, debt counselling, or a recommendation to take or avoid any financial action.
We are not a bank, a lender, a broker, a payment service, a financial adviser, or any other kind of regulated financial institution, and Tavala does not move, hold or transfer money.
Before you act on anything you see in Tavala - refinancing a loan, changing how you repay a debt, committing to a savings plan - check it against your own circumstances, and speak to a qualified professional if the decision matters. Decisions you make remain yours.
Numbers can be wrong. Exchange rates and cryptocurrency prices are supplied by third parties and may be delayed or inaccurate. Imported bank transactions may arrive late, incomplete, duplicated or amended by your bank. Projections rest on assumptions that will not hold exactly. Treat your bank's own statement as the authoritative record of your money, never Tavala.
Your data belongs to you
You keep every right you have in the records you create. We claim no ownership of them.
You give us only the permission we need to run the service for you: to store your records, transmit them between your devices, and show them to people you have invited into a shared space. That permission ends when you delete the data or your account.
How we handle personal data is set out in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of this agreement.
Shared spaces
You can invite other people into a space so you can track money together. Sharing a space you own needs Tavala Plus or a Group pass; joining a space someone else shares with you is free on every plan. A space can have up to six members.
You invite people with a join code, which expires after fourteen days and works for a limited number of people, or by email to someone who already has a Tavala account. Two things follow from sharing, and both are your responsibility.
Everyone in a space can see and change everything in it. Invite only people you intend to give that access to.
When you invite someone by email, you are giving us their email address so we can find their account. Please make sure they are expecting it.
Anyone in a space may leave it at any time. The records stay in the space; they do not leave with the person. If you delete an account that owns a space with other members still in it, ownership passes to the member who joined earliest, so their data is not destroyed along with yours. If your Tavala Plus ends, the people in spaces you own keep reading access to them until you subscribe again or make the space private.
Connecting a bank
Bank connections are optional, need Tavala Plus, cost an add-on per connection, and are available in the United States and Canada through Plaid. Using them means you also accept Plaid's terms and its end user privacy policy.
The connection is read-only. Tavala cannot initiate a payment or change anything at your bank.
We do not guarantee that any particular bank is supported, that a connection will keep working, or that imported data will be complete or correctly categorised. Banks change their systems without notice. You should always reconcile against your bank's own records.
A connection ends, and is removed at Plaid, when you disconnect it, when it has been broken or left unfinished for 30 days, when you have not opened Tavala for 90 days, when its add-on is not paid within 24 hours of linking, or when your Tavala Plus ends. The transactions it already imported stay in your records as ordinary entries.
Ask Tavala AI Agent
Ask Tavala is optional. It needs an account, your agreement to what it sends, and a connection. A free account can ask one question a day; Tavala Plus can ask up to 150 a month, and each question counts once. We may change these numbers, and the pricing page always shows the current ones.
Its words are written by an AI model and can be wrong. The figures in an answer are calculated by the app from your records, but a model can misunderstand a question, pick the wrong records, or describe a figure badly. Check an answer before you rely on it. Like everything else in Tavala, it is not financial advice.
Nothing is saved until you confirm it. Ask Tavala shows every change it prepares as a preview. When you tap Confirm, the change is yours, exactly as if you had made it by hand; Undo is available for five minutes afterwards. Ask Tavala does not delete records and cannot move money.
Do not use Ask Tavala to try to get around these terms, to probe or overload our systems or the AI providers behind it, or to send content you have no right to send. We may limit or switch off Ask Tavala for an account that does, or for everyone if a provider becomes unavailable. What it sends and to whom is set out in the Privacy Policy.
What you agree not to do
Do not use Tavala to break the law, to store data you have no right to, or to try to access another person's account. Do not attempt to disrupt, overload, reverse engineer or extract data from our systems beyond the export the app itself provides, and do not use automated means to create accounts or to share one paid plan between people who are not members of your spaces.
Plans, prices and payment
Tavala is free to use, for as long as you like. The free plan has limits: one device syncing at a time (all browsers count as one device), two currencies in each space you own, two private spaces of your own, a 30-day forecast and this month's reports. Joining spaces other people share is free. Nothing you record is ever hidden or deleted by a limit; anything over a limit is read-only until you subscribe or choose what stays. There are no advertisements on any plan. The pricing page lists the limits side by side.
Tavala Plus is a subscription, monthly or yearly, that removes those limits: every device, every currency, as many spaces as you need shared with up to six people each, 60 and 90 day forecasts, and reports over any range. There is no free trial and no introductory price; the free plan is the trial.
The Group pass is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. It opens one space to six people for 60 days, can be bought by any member of that space, and when it ends the space stays readable by everyone in it.
The bank add-on is priced per bank connection, monthly or yearly alongside your Plus, and is charged only after the bank has actually connected. If the connection does not go through, nothing is charged. If it connects and the add-on is not paid within 24 hours, the connection is removed.
Where you buy decides who bills you. On iPhone, iPad and Mac the App Store takes the payment under Apple's terms, on Android Google Play under Google's terms, and in the browser Stripe does under these terms. Taxes are shown before you pay where they apply. A purchase made on one platform works on every device you sign in to.
Renewal and cancellation. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period until it is cancelled. Cancel at any time; the subscription then runs to the end of the period already paid for and does not renew. A subscription bought in the App Store or Google Play is cancelled in your Apple or Google account, in the same place as your other subscriptions. One bought in the browser is cancelled from Settings in Tavala (Tavala Plus, then Manage), on the cancellation page without signing in, or by writing to support@tavala.io from the email address on the account. Deleting your account cancels a web subscription; it does not cancel a store subscription, which you must cancel in the store.
Refunds. For a purchase made in the browser, ask within 14 days of the charge and we refund it, no questions asked; after that we do not refund part of a period except where the law requires it. Refunds for purchases made in the App Store or Google Play are decided by Apple or Google under their rules. Any refund ends the paid features at once.
Price changes. If a renewal price goes up, we tell you before the renewal that would be charged at the new price, and you can cancel before it applies.
When Plus ends, whether you cancelled, a payment failed, or a refund was made, your account returns to the free limits. Nothing is deleted or hidden: anything over a limit becomes read-only until you subscribe again, and bank connections end. We give you a notice in the app and by email seven days before a subscription ends, and changes you made offline before it ended are still accepted for 72 hours afterwards.
Unused free accounts. A free account that has not been opened for 24 months is deleted, together with its data, after warnings by email 30 days and 7 days before. Opening the app once keeps it.
Availability
We aim to keep sync and bank import running, but we do not promise any particular level of availability. We may change, suspend or discontinue parts of the service. The app itself keeps working offline when our servers do not.
If we ever decide to shut Tavala down, we will give you reasonable notice and time to export your data, and no subscription will renew for a period we cannot provide. Because the app is offline-first, a signed-in copy of your records already sits on your own device.
Ending it
You can stop at any time. Delete your account from Settings, or simply remove the app. Our account deletion page explains what happens, including to a subscription.
We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, is being used unlawfully, or is putting our systems or other users at risk. Except where the law or the seriousness of the breach prevents it, we will tell you why and give you a chance to export your data.
Disclaimers
Tavala is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we exclude all warranties that are not expressly stated here, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, that defects will be corrected, or that the figures it produces are accurate or suitable for any decision you make.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows:
- We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for lost profits, lost savings, lost data or lost opportunity.
- We are not liable for any financial decision you take on the basis of anything shown in Tavala.
- Our total liability to you for all claims arising out of or relating to Tavala is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or US$50.
Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded - including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
If you are a consumer, you keep every right your local consumer law gives you, and nothing in these terms reduces those rights. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusions above; where that is so, they do not apply to you.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change materially affects your rights, we will give you notice in the app or by email before it takes effect, and you may close your account if you do not accept it. Continuing to use Tavala after a change takes effect means you accept the new version.
The date at the top of this page is the date the current version took effect.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of the State of Wyoming, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and disputes will be heard by the state and federal courts located in Sheridan County, Wyoming.
If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory law of your own country, or of your right to bring proceedings there where local law grants it.
The rest
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force and the unenforceable part is narrowed only as far as needed.
Our not enforcing a term on one occasion is not a waiver of it. You may not transfer this agreement to anyone else; we may transfer it as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, on notice to you.
These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between us about Tavala, and replace anything said beforehand.
