This page explains how to delete your account for Tavala: Budget Planner, the app published by Tavala LLC for iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac and the web, and exactly what happens to your data when you do.
There are two ways to do it. The first takes about ten seconds and is the one we recommend.
Option 1 - delete it yourself, in the app
This is immediate and needs nothing from us.
- Open Tavala on any device where you are signed in, or go to app.tavala.io and sign in.
- Tap your account avatar, at the top right of any tab.
- Scroll to the bottom of Settings, to Danger zone, and tap Delete account.
- Type DELETE to confirm. If you turned on the check before deleting, approve it with your face, fingerprint, passcode or passkey.
Your account and its data are erased straight away, and you are signed out. Any other device that was signed in is signed out the next time it connects.
Before you tap it, consider exporting your records. Settings → Export my data writes a complete JSON file of everything you have entered, which you can keep or move to another tool. Once the account is deleted we cannot recover any of it.
Option 2 - ask us to delete it
If you have lost access to the app or your devices, email us instead.
Send a request to privacy@tavala.io from the email address on the account, with "Delete my Tavala account" as the subject.
We will confirm you control that address, delete the account, and write back to tell you it is done. We aim to complete requests within 7 days and will always finish within 30.
If you pay for Tavala Plus
A subscription bought in the browser is cancelled for you as part of the deletion. If the cancellation fails for any reason, the deletion stops and nothing is removed, so you are never charged for an account that no longer exists.
A subscription bought in the App Store or Google Play belongs to your Apple or Google account, and deleting your Tavala account does not cancel it. Cancel it first, in the same place as your other subscriptions: on iPhone, iPad or Mac in Settings under your name, then Subscriptions; on Android in the Play Store under Payments and subscriptions. The app reminds you of this before you confirm.
A Group pass or a bank add-on ends with the account. Store purchases are refunded, if at all, by Apple or Google under their rules; web purchases follow the refund terms in our Terms of Service.
What gets deleted
Everything we hold that is tied to your account:
- Your account itself, including your email address, your password and any authenticator app or passkeys you set up
- Every transaction, wallet and balance you recorded
- Your budgets, recurring bills, savings goals and debts, including interest rates and payment schedules, and your trips and projects
- Your spaces, and your membership of any space you joined
- The list of devices and browsers that synced your account
- Every bank connection you made: we revoke it at Plaid, and delete the encrypted credential that let us refresh it and the copy of the bank data Plaid sent us
- The transactions and account details those connections imported into spaces only you use
- Your record at RevenueCat, the service that confirms App Store and Google Play purchases for us, which we ask it to delete
Deletion is final the moment it happens in our live database. Encrypted backups are kept on a rolling cycle and are fully replaced within 30 days; they are only ever restored to recover from a failure on our side, never to bring an account back. The only other copy of your records is the one on your own device, which is why we suggest exporting first.
What happens to a space you share
If you own a space that other people are still members of, deleting your account does not destroy their data. Ownership of that space passes automatically to whichever member joined earliest, and the records in it stay where they are.
If you are a member of a space someone else owns, your membership is removed. The entries you added stay in that space, because they are part of a ledger the others still use.
A bank you connected in a shared space is disconnected at Plaid, and the encrypted credential and the copy of the bank data Plaid sent us are deleted with your account. The transactions it already imported stay in the space for the other members, as ordinary entries that are no longer linked to your bank.
If you would rather the whole space went with you, remove the other members first, then delete your account.
What we keep, and why
Purchase records. If you ever bought Tavala Plus, a Group pass or the bank add-on, tax and accounting law requires us to keep the record of that sale: the plan, the dates and the transaction identifiers. It contains none of your financial entries.
Crash reports. If the app crashed while you were using it, a diagnostic report may exist. These are not linked to your account - they carry no email address, no name and no account identifier - so they cannot be found and removed for one individual. They are deleted automatically 90 days after they arrive.
Records we are legally required to hold. If there is another accounting or legal obligation covering a specific record, we keep only that record, only for as long as the obligation lasts, and we use it for nothing else.
Nothing else is retained.
If you use Tavala without an account
Most people start this way, and if you never signed in, there is nothing here for you to delete.
In guest mode your records are never transmitted to us. They live only in the app's private storage on your device, or in your browser's own storage on the web. Deleting the app, or clearing the site's data in your browser, removes them, and there is no copy on our servers, because we never received one.
Data your device or app store holds
Deleting your Tavala account does not affect records held by Google Play or the App Store about your download of the app or your purchases there. Those are managed under their own policies, in your Google or Apple account settings.
