Archive a wallet you no longer use
Tavala cannot delete a wallet, only archive it. Swipe its card on the Money tab to hide it and take it out of your totals, with its history kept.
There is no way to delete a wallet in Tavala. You can archive it instead. An archived wallet disappears from the Money tab and from wallet pickers, and it leaves your net worth and What's Left. Its entries stay in your history.
Archive a wallet
- Open the Money tab.
- Swipe the wallet's card to the left. On a Mac or in a browser, drag it to the left. The card shows a grey background with an archive icon. This works for every kind of wallet: spending wallets, savings goals, debts, lending and investments.
- A message reads "Cash archived" (with the wallet's name) and offers Undo. Tap Undo to bring it back.
You can also archive from the wallet's edit screen:
- Tap the wallet to open its register, then tap the pencil (Edit wallet).
- Tap Archive. For a savings goal, a debt or money you lent, the same action is called Remove.
The edit screen has no Undo message. If you archive from there by mistake, see bringing a wallet back.
Keep at least one wallet
The last active wallet cannot be archived. Tavala shows "Keep at least one active wallet." The count includes every kind of wallet, so a savings goal or a debt counts as one. To retire your last wallet, add its replacement first. See add a wallet.
Bring a wallet back
Right after archiving, Undo restores the wallet as it was. Later:
- Open the Money tab and scroll to the foot. While anything is archived, a row reads Archived with the count, for example "Archived (2)", over "See them, or bring one back".
- Tap it. The Wallets page lists your active wallets, then everything under Archived: spending wallets, savings goals, debts, lending and investments.
- Tap the one you want, then tap Unarchive. It returns to the Money tab, your net worth and What's Left, with its entries as they were.
On the free plan, bringing a wallet back counts its currency again, so it must fit the space's 2 currencies.
Good to know
- Entries stay. Archiving never deletes entries, so history, reports and budgets keep what was recorded.
- Balances. An archived wallet is no longer in net worth or What's Left, even if it still holds a balance. Move or correct the balance before you archive it. See move money between your wallets and update a balance that does not match.
- A wrong currency cannot be edited, because a wallet's currency is fixed. Add a new wallet in the right currency, then archive the old one.
- Currency limit. On the free plan a space holds 2 currencies, counted from wallets that are not archived. Archiving the last wallet in a currency frees that slot.
- A wallet cannot be moved up or down the list. Wallets keep the order you created them in.
