What each member of a space can do

A space has one owner and its members. Everyone can add and edit entries; only the owner renames the space, invites, removes people and changes the currency.

Works on iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac and the webUpdated

Every space has one owner, the person who created it, and members, the people who joined. The Spaces screen says it in one line: "Everyone here can add and edit entries. Only the owner can rename the space, change its main currency or remove members."

In the member list on the Spaces screen, the owner has a star and the line Owner. You are shown as "You" followed by your email, and everyone else by their email or as Member. Settings shows Main currency with the note "Only the space owner can change it" to a member.

What members do not see

  • Who added an entry. Entries do not show a name or a mark for the person who added them. The app does not attribute entries to people.
  • Your other spaces. Members of a shared space see only that space.
  • Your plan. The owner's plan decides what the space allows. A member on the free plan gets everything the owner's Plus opens, in that space.

Joining a space is free. See free and Plus compared.

When the owner's Plus ends

Nothing is deleted. The space follows the owner's free plan, and the app says so on Home:

  • "On the free plan only the owner adds to this space." The owner can still add. Members can read every entry but cannot add or change them.
  • "This space is read-only on the free plan." The owner has more spaces than the free plan keeps writable and this one was not chosen. Nobody can add to it until the owner picks it or gets Plus again.
  • "EUR, USD wallets are read-only on the free plan." (the codes vary). The space keeps only 2 currencies writable. Wallets in the other currencies stay readable.

The owner sees buttons next to that line: Choose spaces or Choose currencies to pick which stay writable, and Get Plus. Members see only the sentence. Subscribing again opens everything at once. A Group pass that ends has the same effect. See the Group pass.

Good to know

  • Removing a member or leaving does not delete what they added. The entries stay in the space. See leave a space or remove a member.
  • There is no third role. There are no viewers who can only read, and no way to pass ownership to another member. The one case is when the owner deletes their account.
  • Bank connections in a space belong to the space, but only the person who linked a bank can pay for it. See the bank connection add-on.
