Leave a space or remove a member
Members leave from the Members list and the owner can remove a member. What was added stays in the space, and coming back needs a new invite.
A member leaves a space with Leave on their own row in the Members list. The owner takes someone out with Remove on that person's row. In both cases the person loses access, and everything they added stays in the space.
Leave a space you joined
- Tap the space name at the top of Home and pick the space you want to leave.
- Tap the space name again, then Manage & share spaces.
- In the Members card, tap Leave on your own row, the one that starts with "You".
- Confirm Leave this space? by tapping Leave.
Tavala moves you to another of your spaces and says "You left - it disappears after the next sync." The confirmation sheet has already told you what happens: "The space disappears from your devices. Everything you added stays with the space."
Remove a member (owner)
- Open the space, then Manage & share spaces.
- In the Members card, tap Remove next to the person.
- Confirm Remove this member? by tapping Remove.
The sheet says "They lose access on their next sync. Everything they added stays in the space." Until their device syncs, the space can still appear there.
Good to know
- You cannot undo it. Leaving and removing both end the person's membership, and neither can be taken back. To come back, the person needs another invite: a code or an email invite from the owner. See share a space with someone.
- Data stays. Entries, wallets and budgets that the person added remain in the space for the others. Nothing is deleted.
- The owner has no Leave button. An owner cannot leave their own space, and the app has no way to delete a space or to hand it to another member. If an owner deletes their account, the delete-account sheet names the member who takes the space over, and the shared space stays intact for the others. Spaces that only the owner uses are deleted with the account.
- Leaving always works. It is never blocked by a plan limit. Removing someone else is refused on a device that has stopped syncing, with that device's message.
- Freeing a seat. A space on Plus holds up to 6 people. Removing a member makes room for another person. See what each member can do.
