The bank connection add-on
Bank connections are an add-on to Tavala Plus, priced per bank and charged only after the bank connects. What it costs, how paying works and what ends it.
On this page
A bank connection is an add-on to Tavala Plus, priced per bank. It is for banks in the United States and Canada. Tavala charges for it only after the bank has connected, so searching for a bank in Plaid's window costs nothing.
What you pay
| On tavala.io (browser) | |
|---|---|
| One bank connection, on top of Plus | $3.99 a month, or $39.99 a year |
- The period follows your Plus subscription. Monthly Plus adds monthly banks, yearly Plus adds yearly banks.
- In the apps, the store sets the price for your country. Before Plaid opens, the Connect a bank sheet says "Each bank connection is" followed by the price of one more bank in your Plus period: "a month, charged once it connects." with monthly Plus, or "a year, charged once it connects." with yearly Plus. If the app cannot read the price, the line says "Each bank connection is charged once it connects."
- One connection is one login at one bank. Every account under that login (checking, savings, cards, loans, investments the bank shares) counts once. Two logins at the same bank, such as personal and business, are two connections.
- Plus holds up to 10 bank connections. At the limit the app says "Plus holds up to 10 bank connections. Disconnect one to add" followed by the bank's name.
- The plan card in Settings shows "Includes 1 bank connection", or the number, once you pay for at least one.
How paying works
- Open SettingsMoneyConnected accounts and tap Connect a bank. Without Plus, the Plus sheet opens first with "Bank connections are part of Tavala Plus." See get Tavala Plus.
- Read the Connect a bank sheet, check the bank's country and tap Continue. Your phone, your Mac or, in a browser, your passkey confirms it is you.
- Sign in at your bank in Plaid's window and choose the accounts to import.
- The payment happens now, while you are there:
- iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android. The App Store or Google Play sheet opens for one more bank on your Plus subscription. Confirm it.
- Browser, with Plus billed on tavala.io. The card saved for your Plus subscription is charged. If your bank asks you to confirm, Tavala says "Confirm the payment with your bank." and opens a confirmation page in a new tab.
- When the payment goes through, Tavala says "Linked" followed by the bank's name and "importing transactions…", and the first import starts.
See connect a bank account for the connection itself.
If you do not pay
If you cancel the store sheet or the payment fails, the connection waits for 24 hours and imports nothing.
- The bank's card on Connected accounts says "Finish adding by" followed by a date and time, and shows Pay to finish.
- After 24 hours the connection is removed at Plaid. Nothing was imported, so nothing is lost. You can connect the bank again.
- You can start at most 2 connections without finishing them in 30 days. After that the app says "You've started 2 bank connections without finishing them this month. Finish one, or try again later."
- Only the person who connected the bank can pay for it. In a shared space, other members see "waits for the person who added it to finish."
Plus billed somewhere else
The payment has to happen where Plus is billed. If this device is not that place, a sheet titled Finish adding this bank says where:
| Where Plus is billed | What the sheet says |
|---|---|
| Your browser, and you are in an app | "Plus is billed on the web. Finish adding this bank on tavala.io." |
| The App Store, and you are on Android or the web | "Plus is billed through the App Store. Finish adding this bank on your iPhone or iPad." |
| Google Play, and you are on an Apple device or the web | "Plus is billed through Google Play. Finish adding this bank on your Android device." |
| Given by Tavala | "Your Plus was given to you, not bought. A bank connection needs Plus bought in the App Store, Google Play or on the web." |
The bank waits its 24 hours while you finish on the other device.
What ends a bank connection
- You disconnect it. The connection is removed at once. In the apps, if you now pay for more banks than you use, a sheet titled Pay for fewer banks offers to lower the count from your next renewal. Nothing changes before that. In the browser, Tavala lowers it itself. See disconnect a bank.
- Plus ends. Every bank connection ends with it. Its card says "Ended with Plus. Its transactions stay." Entries already imported stay as ordinary entries.
- A failed renewal. The store's billing grace applies first. When the add-on expires, connections beyond what is paid are removed.
- It breaks and is not repaired in 30 days, or you never finish choosing accounts. The connection is removed and its history stays. See fix a bank connection that needs attention.
Good to know
- Only United States and Canadian banks. The country that counts is the bank's, not yours.
- Tavala never moves money. A connection is read-only.
- The add-on needs Plus. Without Plus you can still track a bank account by hand. See update a balance that does not match.
