Fix a bank connection that needs attention

When a bank card says Reconnect, Renew, Try again or Choose, tap its button. Reconnect within 30 days or Tavala removes the connection and keeps your entries.

Works on iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac and the webNeeds Bank add-onUpdated

Each connected bank has a card on SettingsMoneyConnected accounts. When something needs you, the card says what and shows one button: Reconnect, Renew, Try again, Choose and so on. Tap it and follow the steps. A connection that stays broken for 30 days is removed, and the entries it imported stay.

Find what needs attention

  • On Home, a line names the bank and what it needs, for example "stopped importing. Reconnect by 12 Nov", and has an Open button. With several banks it reads "2 banks need you to keep importing". Open takes you to Connected accounts.
  • On Connected accounts, a card with a button needs you. A card with "Synced 5m ago" and a chevron is healthy.

Reconnect a bank

  1. On the card, tap Reconnect.
  2. Confirm it is you on your device, as when you first connected the bank.
  3. Plaid opens for the same connection. Sign in at your bank again and approve what it asks.
  4. Tavala says "Reconnected" with the bank's name and "· refreshing…", and the card goes back to "Synced just now" once the import runs.

Reconnecting reuses the connection you have. You do not get a second one and no entries are imported twice.

If Tavala says it cannot repair the connection

Sometimes the bank or Plaid has ended the connection for good. A sheet titled with the bank's name and "again" says "This connection can't be repaired", names the bank or Plaid as the one that ended it, and offers Connect again. Tap it. Tavala disconnects the old connection and keeps what it imported, then starts a new link. Its accounts return to the same wallets, and nothing is imported twice. Tap Not now to decide later.

The 30-day rule

  • A connection that has been broken for 30 days is removed at Plaid.
  • A link left on Choose accounts for 30 days, with no accounts chosen, is removed too.
  • What it already imported stays in Tavala as ordinary entries.
  • The card names the date: "Reconnect by 12 Nov to keep importing".

Reconnect before that date and nothing is lost. After it, connect the bank again; the entries you kept stay where they are. See connect a bank account.

Good to know

  • Refresh now. Tap a card and choose Refresh now to ask for the latest transactions. It is not a fix for a card that says Reconnect.
  • Reconnecting asks your device first. If the phone has no screen lock, Tavala asks you to set one before it opens Plaid.
  • Still not importing? See my bank stopped importing transactions.
  • Giving up on a bank: see disconnect a bank.
