My bank stopped importing transactions

Open Connected accounts and read the line under the bank's name. Reconnect, renew, try again, finish setup or pay as it says. A missing row may be pending.

Works on iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac and the webNeeds Bank add-onUpdated

When a connected bank stops importing, its card in Connected accounts says why in one line and offers one button: Reconnect, Renew, Try again, Choose, Share again or Pay to finish. Follow that line first. If the card says "Synced just now" and one transaction is missing, the bank may not have posted it yet, or it may sit in another wallet, account or space.

Why it happens

  • Your bank ended the login. A changed password, an expired login or a removed permission at the bank stops imports. The card reads "Reconnect to keep importing", or "Access was removed at your bank".
  • The access period is ending. Banks grant access for a limited time. The card reads "Renew access by 12 Nov" or "Renew access now", and Home shows "Example Bank: renew access by 12 Nov to keep importing".
  • The bank or the connection had a temporary error. The card reads "Couldn't refresh · tap to retry". After 7 days of failing it adds a date: "Couldn't refresh · fix by 12 Nov".
  • The first import did not finish. The card reads "Couldn't import, try again" or "Import interrupted, try again".
  • Setup was left half done. The card reads "Choose which accounts to import". Nothing imports until you choose.
  • The bank stopped sharing an account. The card reads "Your bank stopped sharing Joint Savings".
  • The connection was not paid for. The card reads "Finish adding by 14 Oct, 18:00." or "Finish adding now.". If someone else linked it, it reads "Example Bank waits for the person who added it to finish."
  • Plus ended. The card reads "Ended with Plus. Its transactions stay." Bank connections need Plus. See the bank connection add-on.
  • The device is not syncing. Imported rows reach your phone through sync. See my changes are not showing on my other device.

A connection that stays broken, or unfinished on Choose accounts, for 30 days is removed. Its history stays as ordinary entries. The card shows the date as "Reconnect by 12 Nov".

What to do

Bank and account names below are examples; your own appear on screen.

  1. Open SettingsMoneyConnected accounts. Home also shows an alert such as "Example Bank stopped importing. Reconnect by 12 Nov" with Open, or "2 banks need you to keep importing".
  2. Read the line under the bank's name and tap its button. The table under these steps says what each line and button does.
  3. Before bank sign-in opens, your device confirms it is you: "Next, your phone confirms it's you." (on a Mac "your Mac", in a browser "your passkey"). With no screen lock you see "Set up a screen lock first" (in a browser, "Add a passkey first"). Banks you already connected keep importing. On a Mac the bank opens in a system window, and on the web in a second browser window.
  4. If a sheet says "Connect Example Bank again", with "This connection can't be repaired: Example Bank or Plaid ended it. Connect again to keep importing. What it already imported stays, and its accounts return to the same wallets.", tap Connect again. It removes the old connection, keeping its transactions, and starts a new link.
  5. If the card is healthy, tap the card, then Refresh now. Then check each case:
    • The row is pending. A bank hold shows a "Pending" pill and counts at once. It becomes the posted entry later.
    • The account is not included. Tap the card, then Choose accounts. An account marked "Your bank isn't sharing this account with Tavala, so it can't import." is not shared by the bank. One marked "Stops importing. Its past entries stay." is switched off.
    • You are in another space. A connection belongs to the space it was linked in. Check the space name at the top of Home.
    • It was merged or moved. Imported rows can carry "Possible duplicate" with Merge and Keep both, or "Looks like a transfer to Cash".
    • You deleted it. Deleting an imported row warns that "If the bank sends an update for it later, it will reappear."
  6. If bank sign-in fails, you see "Your bank couldn't connect. Please try again." or the same with the bank's own reason. Try again later.
  7. Still stuck on a card that offers no fix? Tap the card, choose the Disconnect row that names the bank, then tap Keep transactions. Connect the bank again with Connect a bank (or Connect another bank).

If that did not help
