Delete your account
Delete your Tavala account and the data synced to it from Settings. What goes, what happens to shared spaces and subscriptions, and why it cannot be undone.
Delete account permanently removes your Tavala account and all the data synced to it. It takes effect at once and cannot be undone. Before you start, export your data, and cancel any App Store or Google Play subscription yourself: deleting the account does not cancel it.
Delete your account
- Export your data if you want a copy. See export all your data. The delete sheet also has an Export my data first button.
- If Plus is billed through the App Store or Google Play, cancel it there first. See cancel Tavala Plus.
- Open SettingsDanger zoneDelete account. On a phone, Settings is the round person icon at the top right. On an iPad or a Mac it is at the foot of the rail or the sidebar. The Danger zone is at the bottom of Settings.
- Read the sheet. It says "This permanently deletes your account and all data synced to it. It cannot be undone."
- Type
DELETEin the field. Capitals or lower case both work. - Tap Delete. The button stays off until the field says DELETE. If you turned on Deleting your account in Sign-in & security, your device confirms it is you first.
- Tavala says "Your account and data were deleted." and returns this device to a fresh guest. If it says "Could not delete your account.", nothing was removed. Try again.
What the sheet warns about
- A subscription. For Plus billed through the App Store, the sheet says "Your Tavala Plus subscription is billed by the App Store. Deleting the account does not cancel it: cancel it in your Apple account settings." For Google Play it says to cancel it in the Play Store. A subscription bought in the browser, on tavala.io, is cancelled with the account.
- A space you own with other members. The sheet names the member who becomes its owner, the one who has been in it longest. Shared spaces stay intact for their other members, and spaces only you use are deleted.
- A bank you connected in a shared space. It is disconnected, and what it imported stays in the space as ordinary entries.
What happens to your data
- Deleted: your account, your email and password, any authenticator app or passkeys, every wallet, entry, budget, bill, debt, goal, trip and project in spaces only you use, the list of devices that synced, and every bank connection you made.
- Spaces you share: if you own one with other members, ownership passes to the member who joined first and their records stay. If you are a member of someone else's space, your membership is removed and the entries you added stay in that space.
- To take a whole shared space with you, remove its other members first, then delete your account. See leave a space or remove a member.
- A Group pass or a bank connection ends with the account.
- Kept by law: purchase records, if you ever bought something, because tax and accounting rules require them. They hold the plan, the dates and the transaction identifiers, and none of your entries. Crash reports are not linked to your account and are deleted after 90 days.
- Other devices signed in to the account are signed out the next time they connect.
The full list is on tavala.io/delete-account.
Good to know
- There is no password prompt. The check is typing
DELETE, plus your device's check if you turned it on. - Signed in only. A guest has no account. To remove guest data, delete the app, or clear the site's data in your browser. Nothing is held on a server.
- You cannot sign in any more? Write to privacy@tavala.io from the email on the account, with "Delete my Tavala account" as the subject. Tavala confirms it is you and deletes the account.
- Free accounts that nobody opens for 24 months are deleted after two warning emails, 30 days and 7 days before. Opening the app once keeps the account.
- To leave but keep your data, sign out instead. Your data stays in your account.
