Use Tavala in a browser
Open app.tavala.io to use the same Tavala app in a browser. Sign in to sync with your phone, or try it as a guest. This page lists what a browser does not have.
Tavala also runs in a browser at app.tavala.io. It is the same app as on the phone: the same tabs, the same screens, the same data once you sign in. Use it on a computer, including a Windows PC, with nothing to install.
Get started
- Open app.tavala.io in your browser.
- Sign in with the email and password of your account: on the welcome screen tap I already have an account. Your data downloads and stays in step with your phone. See sign in on another device.
- Or tap Get started to use the browser as a guest, with no account.
The first visit takes a few seconds to load. After that the app opens from the copy your browser keeps, and it keeps working offline: changes wait in the browser and upload when you are back online. See how sync and offline work.
Good to know
- Guest data lives in the browser. Without an account, your entries are stored by this browser on this computer. Clearing the site's data in your browser's settings removes them, and a different browser does not see them. Create an account to back them up.
- All your browsers count as one device. On the free plan one device syncs at a time, and every browser of your account shares one place, called "Browser". See devices on the free plan.
- The wording changes. Where the phone app says "this phone", the browser says "this browser".
What a browser does not have
| Feature | In a browser |
|---|---|
| App lock | Not available. Use your computer's own lock screen |
| Home screen widget | Not available |
| Bill reminders and notifications | Not available. Settings has no Notifications row in a browser |
| Update prompts | None. The browser loads the version that is live when you open the page; reload the page if it looks out of date |
| Face ID, Touch ID or fingerprint check | Not available. A passkey is the check instead |
Things that work differently
- A passkey is the check before connecting a bank. A browser has no Face ID or fingerprint check, so Tavala says "Next, your passkey confirms it's you." If you have no passkey it says "Add a passkey first". Add one in SettingsSign-in & security; see sign in with a passkey.
- Connecting a bank opens Plaid in a new window. Tap Continue; if the browser blocks the window, allow pop-ups for the site and tap Continue again. See connect a bank account.
- Exporting downloads a file to your computer instead of opening a share sheet.
- Plus is bought through a web checkout and the plan card then reads "Billed on tavala.io". A Group pass cannot be bought in the browser; buy it in the phone app. See get Tavala Plus.
- Keyboard shortcuts work in a browser as on an iPad or a Mac; see keyboard shortcuts.
