Put spending on a trip or a project
Dates add expenses to a trip for you. For anything else, use the trip chip on an entry, type the trip's name in the capture bar, or use Add entries on its page.
On this page
An entry gets onto a trip or a project by its date, by the trip chip, by typing the trip's name, or with Add entries. You can also keep an entry off. What you choose by hand always beats the dates.
By dates (nothing to do)
A trip with an end date up to 60 days after its start takes every expense dated inside it, from the first day to the last. That includes entries you add later and entries you add for a past day. It does not take income, transfers, loan interest, bills that post from a recurring rule, or bank rows that are transfers or loan payments. A refund follows the expense it undoes.
With the trip chip
- Open the capture bar or the full form for an expense. The chip is hidden until you have a trip or project: in the capture bar it appears while one is open or upcoming, and in the full form while one exists.
- Look at the chip. It reads Everyday, or the trip's name when one is selected. In the full form it has a suitcase icon, next to the date chip.
- Tap the chip. The Part of sheet opens.
- Choose a trip or project, or Everyday to keep the entry out of every trip. Open trips are listed first, then Upcoming, then a collapsed Finished group, and New trip or project at the end.
- Save the entry.
A choice you make is kept. If you later change the entry's date or the trip's dates, the entry stays where you put it.
A project also remembers merchants. If an open project already holds an entry whose note starts with the same merchant, a new entry with that note starts on the project. The chip shows it before you save, and you can change it.
For an existing entry, open it from HomeActivity, tap the chip, choose, and tap Save.
By typing the name
In the capture bar, a word in your line that matches the name of an open trip or project selects
it. Type 40 lisbon dinner and the chip switches to Lisbon, with the word kept in the note. The
word must equal a word of the name, or be the first 4 or more letters of one. Common words such as
"to", "new" or "the" never match. It applies to expenses only, and only to a trip that has started
and not ended. While a trip with dates is on, the capture bar's hint reads Lisbon · try "40 dinner".
With Add entries
Open the trip's page and tap Add entries at the bottom. The list shows expenses from 90 days before the first day up to today that no trip holds and that you have not marked Everyday. Entries from merchants the trip already has come first and are ticked. Tick or untick, then tap Add entries (it reads "Add 3 entries" with a count). A message says "Added 3 entries to Lisbon".
This is the way to fill a project, because a project does not take entries by date. When a budget row shows "€45.00 of this may belong to Renovation" with Review, that button opens Add entries for the same category.
Income
Income never joins by date. To attach it, open the income entry, tap the chip (it reads Trip or project), and choose the trip. On the trip's page it shows as "paid back" and is not subtracted from the total.
Keep an entry out, or take it off
- Everyday: choose it in the Part of sheet. The entry stays out even though the dates cover it, now and for trips you create later.
- Not on this trip: when a trip's dates cover an entry, the sheet offers it. It saves the entry as Everyday and makes this device start new entries inside that trip's dates on Everyday. On this trip again undoes that.
- From the trip's page: swipe an entry to the left, Remove from Lisbon. The message "Removed from Lisbon" has Undo. The entry becomes everyday.
Good to know
- Bank entries. On an imported row, the category and the trip or project are yours to change.
- Pending and estimated entries join like any other, and the trip's total says how much of it is pending or estimated.
- Wallet and currency. A trip's Spend from wallet is the capture bar's starting wallet while the trip is on. Pick another wallet with the wallet chip when you need to.
- See the effect. What a trip or project cost shows the total and the entries.
