Net worth calculator

Net worth is everything you own minus everything you owe. Enter each account, asset and debt in its own currency, give today's rate for each currency, and compare the result with the official median for your age in the United States or Great Britain.

Against the official median for your age

The median for families aged 35 to 44 in the United States is $155,600.00 (mean $681,900.00), 2025, in 2025 dollars. Your figure is below it.

Source: Federal Reserve, Survey of Consumer Finances 2025, Table 2. The median is the middle family, not the average; a family is not one person. The Fed publishes no percentiles by age.

Runs entirely in your browser on the net worth rule of the Tavala app. Nothing you type is sent or kept.

How it adds up

The calculator follows the rule the Tavala app uses for its Money tab. It first adds up each currency on its own, in that currency: all the dollar lines, all the euro lines. Then it converts each currency's total into your main currency once, at the rate you typed, rounded to the cent, and adds those up. A currency you give no rate for is left out and named, never counted as zero, because a total that silently drops your yen account is worse than one that says it is missing.

One net worth, two exchange rates

A checking account of $4,200, savings of €12,000, a brokerage account of $23,500, a car loan of $7,900 and a credit card balance of $2,140, in dollars. Nothing changes but the euro.

The euro falls about 4% and net worth falls by $528.00, though nobody spent or earned anything. That is why the by-currency column matters: it shows the €12,000 did not move, only its value in dollars. To see how this works for accounts in several countries, see the net worth page.

Against the median for your age

The comparison uses two official tables, each in its own currency and year. In the United States, the Federal Reserve's Survey of Consumer Finances for 2025 puts the median family net worth at $215,900.00 and the mean at $1,241,500.00: the mean is almost six times the median because the richest families pull it up. By age, the median rises from $33,000.00 for families whose head is under 35 to $504,900.00 at 75 or more. In Great Britain, the Office for National Statistics counts households and includes private pension wealth, for April 2020 to March 2022: a median of £293,700 for all households.

If your main currency is not the table's, the calculator asks for a rate and converts the median, and the comparison is only as good as that rate and as the match between your situation and a family or household in another country.

What it assumes

Values as you type them, on one day, at the rates you give. The site fetches no exchange rates, so nothing about what you type leaves your browser; your bank or Google gives today's rate.

Words this page uses

Net worth
What you own minus what you owe, on one day, in one currency.
Asset
Anything with a value you could turn into money: cash, savings, investments, a pension's current value, a home, a car.
Liability
Anything you owe: a mortgage, a car loan, a credit card balance, a student loan.
Main currency
The one currency everything is added up in. The others are converted into it at the rate you give.
Median
The middle value: half of the families or households have more, half have less. The mean, or average, is pulled up by the richest.

Questions

What should I include?
Every account and asset at what it would fetch today, and every debt at what you would pay to clear it today. A pension counts at its current value, a home at a cautious estimate, a car at its resale price, not what you paid.
Why does my net worth change when I have not spent anything?
Because money in another currency is worth more or less in yours as the rate moves. The calculator keeps each currency's subtotal so you can see which part moved.
Is there a net worth by age percentile for my age?
Not an official one. The Federal Reserve publishes the median and the mean net worth by age, which the calculator shows, and percentiles only for all families together: the 75th percentile was $812,800.00 and the 90th $2,539,200.00 in 2025.
Can I download a net worth template?
Yes. Download as a spreadsheet writes your lines, their rates and the total to a CSV file, made in your browser, that opens in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets.
Does Tavala show net worth over time?
No. The Tavala app shows today's net worth, by currency, on the Money tab; it does not chart it over time.
