Track your net worth without handing over your bank login

Net worth is everything you own minus everything you owe. In Tavala it is the top card of the Money tab: every wallet, savings goal and debt you track, in whatever currency each is held, added up in your main currency at today's rate. You type the balances, or update them when they change. A bank connection is optional, for banks in the United States and Canada.

Assets and liabilities, by what each wallet is

Cash, bank, card and e-wallet balances, savings goals and money you lent are assets; debts are liabilities. A negative net worth is shown as a plain minus, not as a warning.

Every currency, at today's rate

Each wallet keeps its own currency. Net worth converts them into your main currency at today's rate every time you look, and says "at today's rate" under the figure when they span more than one currency.

  • Balances move, entries do not

Net worth uses today's rate because it says what your money is worth now. Spending and budgets keep the rate of the day you paid, so a currency move never rewrites last month.

  • Crypto beside cash

A coin wallet is updated by hand and valued at today's price from CoinGecko, refreshed every six hours. A wallet with no rate yet is left out of the total and named, never guessed.

  • Debts that count down

Every debt is a liability with its own payoff date, and the payoff planner shows the month you are debt-free. As you pay, net worth rises by what the debt falls.

What counts, and at which rate

Net worth on the Money tab is assets minus liabilities in your main currency. Assets are every wallet that is not a debt: cash, bank, card and e-wallet balances, savings goals and money you lent, plus investment accounts that follow a connected bank. Liabilities are your debts. Archived wallets count in neither.

Balances are converted at today's rate every time you look, which is the honest number for what you own now; spending and budgets keep the rate of the day you paid. When your wallets span more than one currency, "at today's rate" sits under the figure, and each foreign group of wallets shows its subtotal and its value in your totals, for example USD · $500.00 · ≈ €455.00 in totals.

Private by default

Every balance can be typed and kept current by hand, with Update balance when reality and Tavala differ. No account, no bank and no aggregator is needed for any of it. Hidden amounts turn the figures into dots on screen, and the app lock covers the app in the app switcher, for the moments a net worth is nobody else's business.

What it does not do yet

There is no chart of net worth over time; each wallet's own register has a line of its balance over 1M, 3M, 6M, 1Y and All. There is no property, vehicle or manually tracked investment type: an investment wallet exists only through a bank connection in the United States or Canada, where it is tracked by balance, without holdings. If your net worth is mostly a house and a pension abroad, Tavala will hold the debts and the cash around them, and the rest belongs in a note or a spreadsheet for now.

Questions about net worth

Does Tavala chart my net worth over time?
Not yet. The Money tab shows net worth today, and each wallet's register has a line of its balance over time (1M to All). A chart of the total over time is not built.
Can I add my house or a brokerage account by hand?
Not as an asset of its own. Tavala tracks wallets, savings goals, money you lent and debts by hand; investment accounts are tracked by balance through a bank connection in the United States and Canada. There is no property or vehicle type.
Is net worth free?
Yes. The Money tab and net worth are the same on every plan. The free plan holds wallets in two currencies per space; Tavala Plus holds every currency.
Why does my net worth change when I have not spent anything?
Because foreign balances are worth more or less in your main currency as rates move, and coins as their price moves. Your spending does not change; the value of what you hold does.
