Tavala vs Money Manager
Money Manager by Realbyte is a long-established manual tracker for one phone: double-entry accounts, a main currency and sub-currencies at rates you set yourself, no bank sync, and a PC editor the phone serves to a browser on your Wi-Fi. Its free version shows ads. Tavala keeps one ledger on iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac and the web, fills in daily rates and keeps them on each entry, works offline and shares a space with up to six people. Choose Money Manager for a one-phone ledger with card settlement dates and weekly budgets; choose Tavala for several devices, sharing, or currencies without typing rates.
What Tavala is
Tavala is a private, offline-first personal finance app for budgets and expenses in any currency, on iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac and the web. It starts with no account and no bank: you type what you paid in one line, in any of 155 currencies and 96 cryptocurrencies, and every entry keeps the exchange rate of its day. Budgets show what is left, bills feed a safe-to-spend figure, and debts get a snowball or avalanche plan. It is free to start; Tavala Plus is $39.99 a year on the web for every device, every currency and spaces shared with up to six people. A read-only bank connection is an optional add-on for banks in the United States and Canada.
What Money Manager is
Money Manager is an expense tracker from Realbyte Inc. for iPhone, iPad and Android, still updated (its iOS and Android apps added tags on 15 October 2026). It keeps accounts in double entry, with credit and debit card settlement dates, transfers and repeating entries, and budgets by category per week, month or year. Entries can be in any currency, with a main currency, sub-currencies and currencies you define yourself, such as Bitcoin or gold, at exchange rates you set. There is no bank connection. The free version shows ads and is limited to 10 accounts on iPhone and 15 on Android. The PC Manager, listed under the paid version on Google Play, opens your data in a computer's browser while the phone stays on the same network with its access screen open.
One phone, or every device
Money Manager's help says it does not support syncing multiple devices yet, on iOS or Android. Your data lives on the phone, with backups by email, iCloud, Dropbox or a backup file, and its help says that moving between Android and iOS means buying again. To work on a computer, the PC Manager serves an editor from the phone to a browser on the same router, and the connection is lost if the phone leaves its access screen. Its App Store listing does not include the Mac, and there is no Windows app.
Tavala is one ledger across iPhone, iPad, Android, a native Mac app and the web at app.tavala.io, which also runs on a Windows PC with nothing to install and no phone beside it. Every screen works offline, and with an account changes upload when you are back online. The free plan syncs one device at a time (all browsers count as one), and with Tavala Plus one purchase, in any store or on the web, unlocks every device you sign in on. One honest limit: the App Store and Mac App Store listings are not public yet, so on Apple devices Tavala runs in the browser today, with the same ledger.
Currencies and exchange rates
Both apps hold entries in many currencies and add them up in a main currency. Money Manager's help is plain about the rates: they are modified manually by each user, it draws an initial rate from a general source, and it does not follow daily changes. Earlier records keep their rate when you change it. To change the main currency you either keep your data, with rates moved to the latest rate, or clear all data and start again.
Tavala holds 155 currencies and 96 cryptocurrencies and fills in a daily reference rate on every entry, stored there so last month's spending never moves. You can still type your own rate on any entry. The owner of a space changes its main currency at any time, and past entries are re-valued at the rate of each entry's own date. On Tavala's free plan a space holds 2 currencies, counted from its wallets; Tavala Plus holds every currency. Money Manager lets you add a currency of your own, such as gold; Tavala offers no gold, silver or other metals.
The ledger, budgets and capture
Money Manager is closer to bookkeeping: double-entry accounts, card accounts with settlement dates, and budgets per category by the week, the month or the year. Tavala's budgets are monthly only, per category or in total, counting down from a limit with no rollover; there are no weekly or yearly budgets. Tavala has no credit card wallet with settlement dates: a card is tracked as a Card wallet that goes below zero as you spend, or as a debt. In return, safe to spend subtracts the bills due before your next income, and the debt planner orders your debts by snowball or avalanche.
Both are built for typing what you paid. Money Manager adds bookmarks, repeating entries and a photo of a receipt, and its privacy policy says received SMS messages are used for automatic entry. Tavala's capture bar reads one typed line, such as lunch 12.50, in any of six languages: amount, currency, date, category and wallet. It reads no SMS and attaches no receipt photo. Tavala also has a bank connection if you want one: an optional add-on to Tavala Plus, for banks in the United States and Canada, read-only through Plaid, at $3.99 a month per bank.
Sharing, ads and price
Money Manager does not describe sharing, and with no sync between devices a second person cannot work on the same data from their own phone. Tavala shares a space with up to six people, each on their own account and device; the owner's Tavala Plus covers everyone, and the people who join never pay. Every member sees and edits everything, and entries do not show who added them.
Money Manager's price is not clear from its own sources. On 25 October 2026 the US App Store listed a 1 Month Subscription at $2.49 and a 1 Year Subscription at $19.99 in the free app, and a separate paid app, Money Manager (Remove Ads), at $5.99. Realbyte's own help article says the Premium version is a one-time purchase for lifetime use, not a monthly or annual subscription. The two disagree, and we do not know which applies to you: check the price in your store before you buy. On Google Play the paid version removes ads, lifts the 15-account limit and adds the PC editor.
Tavala's free plan has no end date, no ads and no cap on wallets, but it is limited to one synced device and 2 currencies per space. Tavala Plus is a subscription, $39.99 a year or $6.99 a month on the web, with no one-time or lifetime option, so over a few years Tavala can cost more than a one-time purchase. Tavala has no trial: the free plan is the trial.

- You want to edit your data on a computer in a browser over your home Wi-Fi, with the phone kept open.
Switching from Money Manager
Tavala imports nothing from Money Manager. Money Manager exports a month of data to Excel by email from its Home tab, and makes a full backup file; the backup is the only complete copy, and it is not a spreadsheet. Keep both as your archive and start Tavala from today: pick your main currency, add one wallet per Money Manager account with today's balance in its own currency, track each credit card as a Card wallet or a debt, re-create your repeating entries as recurring rules and set monthly budgets for the categories you watch.
Loans and other debts are the exception: Tavala imports a list of debts, a lender's schedule or past loan payments from a CSV file, with a preview before anything is saved.
Tavala publishes this page and is one of the apps on it. Facts about Money Manager are from its own pages, checked on 25 October 2026. Corrections are welcome at the address on the about page.

- Yes. Tavala uses daily reference rates and stores the rate on each entry, so past spending does not move. You can type your own rate on any entry; it changes that entry only.
- Is Tavala a one-time purchase?
- No. Tavala Plus is a subscription, $39.99 a year or $6.99 a month on the web. The free plan has no end date and no ads, and it is the trial: there is no other.
