Open your budget in any current browser

Tavala runs in a browser at app.tavala.io, and it is the same app as on the phone: the same tabs, the same screens and, once you sign in, the same data. Nothing to install, so it works on a Windows PC, a Linux laptop or a borrowed computer. Start as a guest with no account, or sign in and your ledger arrives and stays in step with your phone.

The same app, not a lighter one

The browser runs the Tavala app itself, built for the web, not a website that looks like it. The capture bar reads the same one-line entries, budgets count down the same way, debts get the same snowball or avalanche plan and every entry keeps its exchange rate. Chrome and Edge load a WebAssembly build, Safari and Firefox a JavaScript one; you see the same screens in each.

The first visit takes a few seconds while the app downloads. After that it opens from the copy your browser keeps, and it keeps working offline: changes wait in the browser and upload when you are back online. Keyboard shortcuts work as on a Mac, with Ctrl on Windows and Linux: Ctrl-N for a new entry, Ctrl-F to find one, Ctrl-1 to Ctrl-6 for the tabs.

As a guest, or signed in

Tap Get started and you are a guest: no account, no email, and your entries are stored by this browser on this computer. Clearing the site's data removes them, and a different browser does not see them, so create an account when you want them backed up. Sign in instead and your data downloads from your account and syncs with your phone. On the free plan one device syncs at a time, and every browser you sign in on counts together as one device, called Browser.

What a browser does not do

A browser has no app lock, no Home Screen widget, no bill reminders and no Face ID or fingerprint check; use your computer's own lock screen. Where the phone asks for Face ID before connecting a bank, the browser asks for your passkey. Tavala Plus is bought through a web checkout, $39.99 a year or $6.99 a month, and the plan card then reads Billed on tavala.io; a Group pass is bought in the phone app. Exports download a file instead of opening a share sheet.

Questions about Tavala for the web

Does Tavala work on Windows?
Yes, in the browser. Open app.tavala.io in Chrome, Edge or Firefox on a Windows PC; there is nothing to install and no Windows app.
Does it work offline in a browser?
Yes, after the first visit. The browser keeps a copy of the app and your data, so it opens and saves entries with no connection; with an account, changes upload when you are back online.
Is my data on your server if I use Tavala in a browser?
Not as a guest: a guest's entries are stored by the browser on that computer and nothing about them is sent. With an account, they sync through Tavala's servers in Ireland, as on a phone.
Can I buy Tavala Plus in the browser?
Yes. Plus is $39.99 a year or $6.99 a month through a web checkout, and it applies on every device you sign in on. A Group pass cannot be bought in a browser yet; buy it in the phone app.
